See What the Eye Cannot
DJI thermal drones detect temperature differences invisible to the naked eye — from body heat at 2km to faulty solar cells and electrical hotspots. 640×512 radiometric thermal cameras on proven enterprise platforms.
What Thermal Drones Detect
Every thermal drone application is built on the ability to detect temperature differences. Here is how thermal imaging translates into operational intelligence across industries:
Body Heat Signatures
SAR, law enforcement, and rescue — thermal detects human body heat at up to 2km in total darkness
Electrical Hotspots
Loose connections, overloaded conductors, failing insulators — thermal reveals faults before outage or fire
Solar Panel Defects
Dead cells, hotspots, and soiling appear as temperature anomalies in thermal — entire arrays in one flight
Moisture Intrusion
Wet building materials retain heat differently — detects leaks behind walls and under roofing
Fire Detection
Thermal penetrates smoke — firefighters identify hotspots, structural risks, and crew locations through smoke
Wildfire Perimeters
Map active fire edges and spot fires from altitude, even at night — smoke-penetrating thermal
Thermal Drone Platforms Compared

Professional Inspection Payload
DJI H30T
DJI flagship thermal payload — 640×512 radiometric thermal, 4× zoom, NIR laser rangefinder 2,000m, IP54. Compatible with Matrice 3D series and Matrice 350 RTK.

Integrated Platform
DJI Matrice 4T
All-in-one thermal + 4K platform in the Matrice 4 airframe. 50-min flight, IP54, AI detection, and 2km laser rangefinder. Thermal + visible in a single deployment.

Portable Thermal Platform
DJI Mavic 3T
Thermal + zoom in an ultra-portable sub-920g package. Fits in a gear bag. 45-minute flight, IP53, 640×512 thermal. Ideal for patrol officers and inspection companies.
How to Choose a Thermal Camera
Resolution: 640×512 vs. 320×256
At 100m altitude, a 640×512 sensor identifies individual components on a power pole. A 320×256 sensor at the same altitude produces blurry, unactionable imagery. Always choose 640×512 minimum for professional inspection work.
Radiometric vs. Non-Radiometric
Radiometric thermal cameras assign a temperature value to every pixel, enabling threshold analysis and reporting. Non-radiometric cameras show hot/cold contrast but not absolute temperature. For solar inspection, electrical fault documentation, and insurance claims, radiometric is essential.
Digital Zoom on Thermal Channel
4× thermal zoom (DJI H30T and Matrice 4T) allows detailed inspection of individual components from 100-150m altitude. 2× zoom forces lower altitude flights, increasing risk and reducing area covered per mission.
Laser Rangefinder Integration
The NIR laser rangefinder on the H30T and Matrice 4T outputs precise GPS coordinates of thermal anomalies. For utility inspections requiring asset management database integration, laser rangefinder capability is essential.
